The Schoberwirt

In 1829 Georg Schober leased a tavern in the Au in Munich - the "Schoberwirt". In 1843 he was awarded by his majesty, the King of Bavaria, the "Bierschenkkonzession in personal capacity". He then bought the estate, had the old economy demolished and rebuilt - until today the home of the "Schoberwirt".

The estate consisted of stables, wagon stalls, a slaughterhouse, three large coke rooms, a large kitchen and 20 guest rooms. On March 7, 1850, the landlord received the concession as “Tafernwirt” – including Krugrecht, Herbergsrecht, the right to subordinate the train and mounts and brewing right, Brennrecht and baking law. The tavern became the center of the Au in Munich and during the annual Dulten it was high.

1918/19, the restaurant was confiscated by the military and used for medical station and officer accommodation. During the Second World War, the building was badly damaged, but could be rebuilt after the war. Since 1936, the tavern in Munich-Au is no longer run by the Schober family, but the name “Schoberwirt” remains.

Since January 2014, Alexander Forst, a graduate of the Vienna Hotel School and since more than 32 years in Munich and always self-employed in the catering trade, runs the oldest tavern in the Au. The desire is to make the “Schoberwirt” again a popular meeting place in the Au in Munich. In the tavern as well as in the own beer garden all guests should feel comfortable, regardless of age, origin or skin color. You meet a cold beer, a card game to watch a football game together and, of course, to eat well.

"The food tastes like nuts" is probably the biggest compliment for our kitchen.

To achieve this, our map is deliberately kept small and is changed daily. Our kitchen has a Bavarian-Austrian orientation and offers regional and seasonal specialties. We serve classics such as Schnitzel, cheese spätzle or Kaiserschmarrn every day. Special requests are gladly fulfilled, if this is feasible. Despite the location close to the center with its beautiful garden, the prices in the traditional tavern in Munich are by no means out of line.

Since we cook fresh, it can sometimes come to longer waiting times – please understand, you will taste the difference! Of course, you can also take all dishes with you. Just call us and your meal will be ready at the agreed time. For private celebrations or special occasions, we are happy to arrange a buffet or menus according to your wishes at the Wirtshaus in Munich Au-Haidhausen.

Football fans are also in good hands with us. All Bayern games are broadcast live on Großbildeinwand and flat screen. Especially for the Champions League evenings, there is a special menu with XXXL Schoberburger, Currywurst or Spareribs.

We especially recommend our quiet garden in the courtyard. Far from the road you can enjoy your after-work beer or a good meal in peace.
